The fire detection system at St. Augustine’s must be updated. Fire officials issued the order last year and the work must be done by this year’s end. The current heat detection system in the attic space of the church building needs to be replaced. Largely inaccessible because of a lack of secure walkways through the space above the church, maintenance is difficult and dangerous. A new system based around a fire detection wire will be installed at a cost of $7000. It can be inspected and tested from a platform at one end of the attic space.
The advantage of the new system is that it will span the whole space as opposed to only in the vicinity of the installed heat detectors.
