Preparations are well underway for the coming holidays. Our venerable Nativity Scene, made of local barn board is being spruced up. Parish volunteers are working hard to recover as much of the old structure as possible. The wear and tear of years has left the edges crumbling and no longer sound, but by expert carpentry it is being renewed, if scaled down a bit! The new creche will be sized to fit in front of the altar, central and seen by all within the new layout of St. Augustine’s newly renovated interior.

Advent decorating is progressing this week. In anticipation of the great feasts of the Christmas season, the Church actually pares back its finery. Instead of flowers, greenery. Outside our building, we’re a little more festive with silver and gold flourishes, and the red ribbons associated with the winter celebrations. However, inside, it will be the purple of Advent (sometimes called, “the little lent” as it shares the colour scheme of that penitential season, and it is to be a time of contemplation and spiritual preparation for renewal through the coming liturgical year).
If you are interested in helping with the decorating of the Church for Christmas… and the help will be appreciated, please join us at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 14 & 21 to help decorate the inside of St. Augustine. Many hands make light work! Pizza lunch to follow. Call the parish office to confirm (905 628-2880), so we have numbers for the lunch.
