St. Augustine’s Shrove Tuesday pancake supper was almost too successful! Planning for a little over 100 diners, parish kitchen coordinator Anne LeBlanc found her team just couldn’t put down their spatulas for a moment as people kept coming. While the final tally wasn’t available at publishing time for this news item, the estimate was that over 150 came out for the supper.
“We had planned for 105, that’s how many ticket we sold,” she explained. In the food service industry, that means there will be provision for a little over that number. However, the turnout was fifty percent higher, and the kitchen volunteers couldn’t stop cooking until after 7 p.m.
It also meant a longer cleanup. Fr. Scott Whitfield expressed his thanks for all those who stayed late to put the kitchen and dining area back into order before calling it a night.
St. Augustine’s hasn’t held a pancake supper in many years.
“A really good group of volunteers deserve our thanks for putting this on,” he said.
