Work on the Parish Centre began yesterday, January 11 with a crew coming in to begin the “demolition” of the hall: taking down the old drop ceiling tiles, and clearing out damaged ducting.
The flooring comes next with the raised platform/stage being dismantled. This area of the parish hall has been something of an issue as more than a few people have stumbled off it. It also kept us from maximizing the floor space for tables and chairs when holding banquets and other parish socials. The new floor will be laid over top of the worn out parquet, less costly than trying to remove it.
There is growing anxiety that the province may impose greater restrictions on the construction trades in coming days. Our general contractor, Frank Szabo of Dundas Valley Construction, is hoping that the province will allow work to continue on projects, just with smaller numbers onsite. He says that we should be able to reschedule in that event and keep the work moving forward.
